Recently, Dick Freeburn of Freeburn Law appeared on ABC 27's Good Day PA to announce an expansion of the firm’s practice areas to include Social Security Disability cases. You may view the segment here:
What is Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)?
Social Security Disability Insurance is a benefit provided by the Social Security Administration that benefits citizens who are disabled and unable to work due to an impairment caused by illness or injury.
Who Qualifies for SSDI Benefits?
To qualify for SSDI, an applicant must have worked long enough and paid enough in Social Security taxes to accumulate the appropriate number of work credits. The applicant must also:
- Suffer from a qualifying disability
- Earn less than $1,220 each month
- Be unable to perform gainful work
How to Apply for SSDI Benefits
People can apply for these benefits by visiting SSA.gov, going to a local Social Security Administration office, or by calling a law firm, such as Freeburn Law, that will assist them with the application process.
Is it Difficult to Get SSDI Benefits?
Getting SSDI benefits is very difficult. Sadly, the SSA denies the majority of claims for SSDI benefits including about 65% of initial claims and around 85% of appeals. To make matters worse, an appeal can take months—or years.
