It Is a Myth That You Can’t Earn While on Social Security Disability

Many people mistakenly believe that you can’t earn any money to get or stay on social security disability. However, this is not the case. You can earn a small amount of money and still get social security disability.

The social security disability program is complex, and it is difficult to navigate on your own. It is best to consult with an attorney if you are planning to file for social security disability. Contact us today for a free consultation, or keep reading for more information.

How Much Can I Earn on Social Security Disability?

The amount you can earn on social security disability depends on your type of disability. If you are blind, you can earn up to $2590 per month, a $130 increase over 2023. All other disabled persons can earn up to $1550 per month, an $80 increase over 2023.

The Social Security Administration only requires that you are unable to engage in substantial gainful activity. This means that as long as you cannot earn more than these thresholds, you will still qualify for social security disability.

Why Did I Get a Trial Work Period?

The Social Security Administration wants to encourage people to go back to work if they are able. If at any time after you get social security disability you earn more than a certain amount, a trial work period will start. The SSA does not state what these thresholds are but does state that they are less than the amounts above.

During the trial work period, you are able to continue receiving benefits regardless of your earnings. It is important to understand that you are not under any obligation to go back to work full-time during this trial work period.

At 70yrs. of age, I have never been in a car accident, nor have I ever had a moving violation! So, needless to say, that the trauma of being involved in an accident that I did not cause, where my car, (which was only 6mos. old) was totaled!) and I received 2 broken bones in my left ankle that warrented surgery…was nothing short of devastating! It’s been 9mos. and I’m still healing! But while I was in the ER, the only injury attorney’s name and number that came to my mind was Freeburn and the 7’s! Well, in came Ryan McDaniels, and ever since that initial encounter at my home, I was thoroughly convinced that the Lord had orchestrated it! This young man’s demeanor, personality, and integrity was awesome! He kept me well informed and I trusted him emphatically! Not only him, but everyone in their office, showed me the utmost respect and courtesies! I would, without any reservations, refer anyone who asked me, to this firm! They made for me a wonderful experience from the most devastatingly, traumatic situation I’ve ever had! Definitely 2 thumbs up!
