The most recent data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that motorcyclists are 28x more likely to die in an accident compared to people in passenger vehicles. 2020 Statistics from NHTSA indicate:
- 5,579 motorcycle riders killed in motor vehicle accidents, representing 14% of all traffic fatalities.
- The number of motorcyclists fatalities increased 11% compared to the previous year.
- Over 80,000 motorcyclists were injured in accidents throughout the year.
- Motorcyclists were more likely to be speeding or under the influence of alcohol compared to drivers of passenger vehicles.

Driving without a license – 36% of motorcycle riders involved in fatal crashes did not have a valid motorcycle license.
Speeding – 34% of motorcyclists involved in fatal crashes were speeding compared to 22% of drivers in passenger vehicles.
